A criminal investigation is underway following the tragic death of an 81-year-old lady who was struck by a police bike escorting the Duchess of Edinburgh. Invitation only was hit at a junction in Earl’s Court, West London, on May 10. The police officer riding the automobile is being investigated for offences, including inflicting demise by harmful driving, by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Holland suffered extreme injuries within the crash, including a quantity of broken bones and vital internal accidents, leading to her dying two weeks later. The officer can be being investigated for inflicting demise by careless or thoughtless driving and potential gross misconduct. However, this does not necessarily imply that expenses or disciplinary proceedings will follow.
IOPC Director Amanda Rowe emphasised the importance of a “thorough, independent investigation” to establish the complete circumstances surrounding the incident. She added, “At the end of our investigation, we’ll determine whether to refer the matter to the Crown Prosecution Service for a charging determination and whether the officer should face disciplinary proceedings.”
